Kindergarten Graduations

This year, each of our New Missions elementary campuses held a kindergarten graduation. In Haiti, the education system begins with two years of preschool followed by kindergarten. Typically, students are five years old when they graduate from kindergarten. The fact that the child has reached his fifth year is significant, and we love to celebrate fifth birthdays in our schools. In Haiti, the mortality rate for children under five has gradually been decreasing—but it’s
still much higher than most of the world. So, you can see why birthday parties and graduation for this age group are exciting! […]

A Tribute to Charlie DiPietro on his 100th birthday

My grandfather, Charlie DiPietro, was born May 30, 1918, in Readville, Massachusetts. Shortly afterwards, his parents bought a 100-acre farm in West Boylston. My grandparents moved to Cambridge during World War II where he found work. Just across the Charles River bridge, they attended Boston Christian Assembly. […]

My husband Ted and I spent a week with Charlie and Rachel DeTellis, mission directors in Haiti, along with a mission team from First Baptist Woodstock, Georgia. One of the team members spoke at a mid-week service at the Bire church and gave an invitation. […]

Lord, Here I Am

What would be the ultimate hope and prayer for our graduates? May they pray: “Here I am Lord, use me.” With the breeze blowing through the New Missions church in Signeau, Haiti, graduates from our Bible college began their processional line dressed in their caps and gowns. Family and friends gathered to celebrate this milestone of an accomplishment. […]

Like Father, Like Son

On the Leogane Plain in Haiti, Pastor Richard Gay has served God for 25 years as pastor and school director at the New Missions Academy in Masson. When we were at his school a few weeks ago, he said to me, “This is my son”—with a smile reminding me of God the Father to His son, Jesus (“I am well-pleased”). […]

God, Change Me Too

As part of her presentation to the youth group at Cielo Vista Church in El Paso, Texas, 16-year-old Gaby shared the following: “I thought I shouldn’t go on this mission trip because I wasn’t good enough. Little did I know the phrase ‘you’re not good enough’ was just a lie that Satan was trying to put in my head.” She had just returned from Haiti, where one of her dreams was to meet Marriana Charles—the girl her family sponsors through New Missions. […]

At our preschools in the Dominican Republic, every school day starts with praying, singing Christian songs, and reading Bible stories. The children follow a routine each day and learn to socialize with other children, share, obey, and respect their elders and others.

Teachers Teaching Jesus

Teachers Teaching Jesus

The focus and priority of New Missions is to preach the Gospel. In that context, we often find ourselves in ministries such as education and healthcare—to express the full Gospel of Jesus Christ. Education is one of our most successful means to see children come to hear and to know Jesus as their Savior.

Lessons from Mom

For as long as I can remember, my mother has been known as a “mother to many” besides her own children. She even introduces other people as her sons and daughters. I am honored to share my mom with the world. More importantly, I am grateful for how many love my mom, too.

Classroom Desks

“Game changer” may not be a word one normally uses to describe a school desk or bench, but in Haiti it really is! “Made in Haiti” (not Made in China) is what should be printed on our classroom desks. Every desk is 100% Haitian made.

When carrying out mission work, we often seek long-term solutions to help the people we serve. Spiritual darkness. Poverty. Illiteracy. Unemployment. Disease. Since 1983, we have pursued Christ-centric solutions to these big problems facing the poorest of the poor in the Western Hemisphere.
