Update on Haiti Crisis
// Tim DeTellis
I wanted to share some good news with you in the midst of a crisis.
Haiti has been overtaken by corruption, and is currently controlled by gang-led areas in the capital city, Port-au-Prince. On July 27, 2023, the Department of State ordered the departure of family members of U.S. government employees and non-emergency U.S. government employees. The U.S. Embassy in Haiti issued a request for all U.S. citizens in Haiti to depart Haiti as soon as possible. However, we believe the local church is unstoppable. Today, in Haiti at our mission, our Haiti staff are safe and serving our churches and schools. Our students are safe due to the remote locations of our schools.
Our mission is fully functioning. Right now, summer VBS programs are taking place and churches are hosting prayer and fasting services to intercede on behalf of the unrest in Haiti. On Friday, April 21, 2023, 38 Haitians followed in believer’s baptism as our churches gathered at the oceanfront of our location in Concrab, Haiti. During the school year, food is being purchased and delivered to our schools. Even though costs are rising, we will not quit.
Since 1983, we have lived through multiple seasons of crisis in Haiti and our focus is still: Hope in God. More than ever, we now know that our consistency as a mission matters. We will not leave Haiti or the Haitians during these trials that test their faith and endurance. This is when your prayers and generosity on a regular basis matter most. Thank you in advance for your faithful prayers and support. The mission is strong because God is at work and we are focused on Jesus.
In Other News: Our Bibles for Students campaign was a blessing as we distributed 1,700 entire Bibles in French to our middle school and high school students, plus their teachers. We also gave our elementary school students the Haitian Bible. This distribution of Bibles was completed before the end of school in June, even while their nation faced unrest. There is hope in God! ~Tim DeTellis
