Who doesn’t love a story with a happy ending?

Meet my 16-year-old friend, George Jean (who has been sponsored by Jeffrey and Amy Vardis since 2014). George lived in a predominantly poor Haitian community, Redemption Village. Work, money, and food were always scarce. In 2009, when George was only four years old, his world came crashing down with the death of his mother. At the age of 13, George was able to enroll in our New Missions high school. There he received love and support from our Christian staff, as well as Bible studies.

George Jean (standing right) is part of Leaders for Christ at New Missions—providing spiritual leadership at the high school campus.

He also loves sharing how Jesus has transformed his life and wants others to come to know Christ.

In the far right, George Jean loves to lead worship. He is grateful for what Jesus has done in his life.

Tragedy happened again in May 2019 when his father died—rendering him an orphan at age 14. He currently lives with his aunt in the same poor community. But his story gets better. George invited Christ into his life, and he’s now involved in a program, Leaders for Christ, where selected students provide spiritual leadership at our Colegio Nueva Vida High School. He shares how he misses the love and guidance of his parents, but now depends upon love and mentoring from our missionaries Heather and Arismendy. He enjoys reading letters from his sponsor. George’s story is still being written; he plans on being a math teacher. New Missions has other students waiting for a sponsor. Will you be part of their story? ~Rob Arms
