Struggles Gone
// Rachel DeTellis
In the midst of the struggles that Haiti has been experiencing, there was rejoicing this March as 22 people publicly expressed commitment to Jesus through water baptism.
This year’s baptism festival welcomed 21 of our New Missions churches to celebrate together at the Concrab campus. Each person in attendance was encouraged to daily meditate on Psalms 91 and 46—to make God their refuge and strength. The Santo church’s brass band played and led the procession from the church down to the beach. Some being baptized had seen God’s healing touch, some were delivered from Voodoo, and others were returning to their Christian roots after coming to Christ for themselves.
Of those baptized this year was a New Missions student, Jonathan Fleurisca. He hasn’t had an easy life. He told us his father was involved in local crime and died prematurely due to violence. However, thanks to a mother who knew the Lord and took him to church, he received Christ as his Savior at a crusade on December 14, 2017, at our Leogane Guillaume church. He sings in the children’s choir and plays the drums. We are thankful for the ministry of each of our pastors and for your faithful prayers and support on behalf of our churches and schools across Haiti and the Dominican Republic. During these struggling times God is still changing lives. ~Rachel DeTellis
