The Power of Worship
// Charlie DeTellis
The history of the Haitian people is one of slavery and bondage due to Voodooism.
God led my parents to start a mission in a very dark location where Voodoo was all around us. The majority of the churches in our area started with our school children. In school they were taught a Bible lesson each day and were encouraged to attend church. Today, I am amazed at the growth of Christian churches in our area. It is truly a revival! There is great preaching and amazing worship in all of our churches.
Haitians absolutely love getting dressed up for church. I sweat a bit too much, but sometimes I’ll put on a suit jacket for a little while…though it usually doesn’t stay on for very long. The Haitians love strong preaching and powerful worship. They are also excellent drummers. As a drummer myself, I have given away several drum sets in Haiti. However, it is totally up to each church and the pastor what style of worship they desire in their church. That said, they are expressing their freedom and celebration in Christ. Thank you Lord; You set me free! ~Charlie DeTellis
