Food in Crisis
// Tim DeTellis
When Haiti has political unrest, the threat to families comes in the form of limiting access to food.
Knowing the severity of the situation in Haiti, I found myself asking for prayer from a group of kids at Lifepointe Church in Eustis, Florida. I was there on Wednesday evening sharing about our Shoebox Drive their church participates in annually. I closed our time by asking us all to join the same team— the prayer team for the kids at New Missions.
After asking for a volunteer to pray, Ansley, age eight, jumped up! She prayed a sweet prayer for safety as kids go to school and food for their homes. I began to cry as I listened. Hearing kids pray for kids makes my heart happy and I know God hears them.
The next morning my brother Charlie was texting me from Haiti: “I am sure Port-au-Prince has food, but road blocks hold back food deliveries.” He was searching for food in the town of Leogane closer to our warehouse. Thankfully, Charlie wrote a check for $17,583 to purchase 500 sacks of rice, 250 gallons of oil, and 200 sacks of beans. We will continue to purchase food in Haiti and feed our students.
We are steadfast in our calling, and our mission is functioning because of your generosity and prayers. Haiti: Hope in God! ~Tim DeTellis
