As a child, I sang the song, “You are my sunshine, my only sunshine. You make me happy when skies are grey…”

On our mission logo, we have a sun. It is on our note cards and on our postcards. I love to color it in with a yellow highlighter when I write cards. For our children in Haiti, you are their highlighted sunshine—colored in by your generous heart and creative giving. You show them “Sonshine.” The ‘grey day’ in their lives began by being born in Haiti. Many face a daily struggle just to survive.

A special part of the gifts inside your shoebox are photos and a note from you.

"We love because He first loved us." (1 John 4:19) is why we pack shoeboxes each year.

Children are open rays of expression—not holding back their joy, their laughter, their dance, and their excitement. When the mission truck shows up at their school filled with shoeboxes, their faces show sunshine. They giggle and smile—eyes focused on the Christmas shoebox handed to them. You may never know the child and the child may never know you. But, God who is the “Sonshine” will bless those who bless these children.

If you don't have time to pack a shoebox for your child, simply visit newmissions.org/shoeboxgiving and we can pack one for you.

I am praying for God to ignite your heart to pack Christmas shoeboxes—taking the ‘grey day’ out of these children’s lives. Your gift can open their ears to hear the Christmas message of our Savior, born to save them and bless them. ~Jeanne DeTellis Loudon
