In the 1980s, when I was the pickup truck driver doing errands in Port-au-Prince, Haiti, I checked to make sure a child was not in the bed of the pickup before I pulled away.

There were also the face to face encounters with desperate mothers, pleading, “Take my child. I know you can care for my baby.” That sacrifice was the mother’s lack of social, economic, and spiritual support to feed or educate her child. The mother wants to sacrifice her love for her child to have a future. I do not check the back of the pickup truck anymore.

Mothers are blessed with our mission that loves their children. We want to give them the best future possible. Our healthcare, nutritional feedings, qualified teachers, and compassionate pastors give each mother peace knowing their child will have a promising future. Child sponsorship gives you this opportunity. I’m sponsoring another little boy in Haiti. It̓s a joy to see him grow and develop—watching the love and security in his eyes. When you love a child through sponsorship, you are loving a mother in her sensitive fragility of not having enough to meet the needs of her child. Child sponsorship is a double love—loving a child and loving a mother. No…it is a triple love…loving God, loving a child, and loving a mother. ~Jeanne DeTellis Loudon
