Teacher Certification

Haiti’s Department of Education does not have laws governing education certification for teachers. In the early days of the mission we employed those we could find in the area.
At our schools we only want to use certified teachers. The Department of Education is working with us to provide training and testing to certify the ones who are already teaching.
Our teachers received certification during a special seminar hosted at our Signeau campus.
In April, we had two days of training for all of our 265 elementary teachers. The response from the teachers regarding the value of the seminars has been overwhelmingly positive. Those who are already certified are thankful for the refresher courses, and those seeking certification feel very blessed—as many have already been teaching for years, have families and other responsibilities, and are unable to return to school to get this certification on their own.
The teachers left the seminars feeling that their “tools” for teaching had been sharpened. They covered topics like lesson preparation and presentation, as well as evaluation of learning.
