There are many single moms in Haiti. Women are often left alone with their children due to desertion or the death of the father, and are destined to eke out a living for their families.

An example is Belandie Paul’s family from Lasalle. Her father died from a stroke in 2016 leaving Belandie’s mom with four children to raise. Nerson Eugene, from Masson, lost his dad to illness and is being raised along with six other siblings by their single mom. The struggle for these moms to feed and educate their children is profound. Without the ministry of New Missions to provide education, these kids and thousands more would not get to attend school.

Sponsorship is an amazing thing because it connects two people: one with a need and the other with the ability and vision to meet that need. Single moms with little or no resources are so grateful when their children have the opportunity to attend our schools—where the students receive a lunch and have free access to our medical clinic. Sponsoring a student can be life changing for both the student and the sponsor. ~Rachel DeTellis
